I say the Pioneer head units are better, their subs are also better, speakers are kinda a toss up, and amps go to kenwood. Just my opinion

I've always used pioneers for my personal HU's
I typically go with memphis audio speakers
JL amps are my favorite
and I've had nothing but success with Elemental Designs Subs

its mostly a matter of personal preference, so save up and spend the money the right way on something you'll enjoy for a long time

pioneer is actually pretty good with their high end decks and have pretty decent sq. i have a kenwood amp powering my comps and it is extremely overrated. so stay way from both companies equipment except for the high end decks

go with kenwood excelon hu , and amp they are better than pioneer will ever be. I don't know why you would say kenwood sucks, I will put my kenwood excelon 811d against any 1000 watt amp around. I sell , eclips, kenwood, fosgate, alpine, orion,jl audio, and sony ( somone has to carry sony) For amps and hu I go kenwood excelon all the way, for subs I would go with fosgate p3, for speakers I would go with fosgate pucnh components,  I would go with a 4 channel sony explode for mids and highs the new 4 ch 100.00 for a clean 50 rmsX4 and full control but would not go with sony for anything else i only carry them because lots of colledge kids only want some cheap stuff just to hear somthing

dude, wheeler, when you're recommending Sony, your opinions become worthless.

sony does make a decent amp for high and mids off course when your looking for 50 clean watts almost any cheap amp will do, my sony 4 channel amps will make your car sound like a concert with my punch components

I know 2 people with Pioneer subs, and they perform pretty well, especially for the price.

One pioneer 10" in a ported box is surprisingly loud in a Windstar and fills it with some decent bass.

The other guy has (3) 12"s in a Jetta and can be heard across town, and I've never heard of either guy having problems. I live in Canada so the cold weather can be  rough on some subs, but these have held up.

I have pioneer 6x9s in my car replacing the factory speakers, they sound really good but don't produce much bass at all, even for 6x9s.

Hope this helps, good luck man.

Personally I like Pioneer for headunits.  In terms of speakers, I wouldn't buy any of theres.  Amps, same thing, dont buy.  If I had to chose subs, I'd personally go with kenwood, but there are better companies.

also the older d-series kicker solobarics are sweet.

I have a pionerr 4600 and haven't had a minutes problem with it. Their head untis have always ben awesome to me, and it's all i've ever owned. Their subs, ehh, some are pretty good. The speakers--my cousin owns a pair of 5x7's and they soun really good. The amps, yes run far far away. To the Planet Audio store in fact. There's you an amp.

Hmmmm, while I believe the pioneer amps are lacking, I have absolutly no faith in Planet Audio as well. I had nothing but bad luck and have talked to more people with bad luck than with good when it comes to that brand.

Ok... I'm new but I believe I have some decent experience with a couple products here...

WHO THE HECK PUTS CAR AUDIO IN A WINDSTAR? You are driving a van, you do not need bass, you need to get a nicer car. Now if you are using that van for space(kids are only good reason, otherwise SUV/Truck) then you REALLY don't need bass, you need to be able to hear stuff around you, and kids make that hard enough. [/endrant]

Sry, just something that annoys me, a lot. Anyways... I love my Pioneer head units, held up very well and the high end (8600) Pioneer HU is freaking beautiful in looks and sound. The HU is a toss up on preference really, try both, see which you think better fits you, though I personally feel that Pioneer seems to do a really good job on surround sound effect. And well, I love that.

I've had Pioneer 6x9, pretty decent. I like my Rockfords more though.

I have some kenwood 6x9s in the back of my car that i picked up for $20 a a flea market. I have them hooked up to my power acoustik amp, and I have them blasting since they are the only amped speakers in my car for now. They are holding up quite well. I see tons of pioneer HUs, and most of my friends have them. I have never heard a complaint from any of them.

HU- Both are good, but I would take a kenwood.
Subs- I hate pioneer's subs, I had 3 of the premier nickel 12 and I swear it wouldn't hit 130 running off a Alpine MRV1505.
Amps- I have never been impressed by pioneer's amplifiers, in fact I smoked 2 brand new out of the box putting them into a demo board. Kenwoods have always been good and very rarely have had problems with them. I miss my old kenwood P100.

uthinkuknoaudio would say Nakamichi... and then nothing else even remotely directed to the question.

Personally, I think the Pioneer gear, especially their higher end stuff, is better across the board - I would chose that over pretty much anything Kenwood...

I am an Eclipse guy tho' posted_image

It all reminds me of something that Moličre once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I don't think anyone is committing a crime by putting a little money into their audio system, even if they are driving a minivan. I know a van is more of a 'practical' vehicle, but this is also a very practical system. Obviously, as a responsible parent, they (or any parent) are not going to crank music if they're driving with their kids. But clearly your kids aren't always in the car with you.

I hope that when I get to the point of having a family and kids that I will still be interested in audio, and that not settling for factory car audio won't be something that will "annoy" people.

I know this person quite well, and if they had the money to afford several cars, I would agree with you that they should be putting subs into  "a nicer car", but you really jumped to conclusions when I commented about this van. Because someone has a certain vehicle doesn't mean that they "REALLY don't need bass" or even that they really do, I think you were off base on this judgement.

rofl, i totally agree! pioneer is a great H U , but they both suck in all other feilds. pio, amps are garbage and kenwoods have ground issues. for midsand highs kenwwod speakers have sceechers, and pioneer has way too low frequency response.
