First of all Im an electrician by trade but I'm ignorant of specs for Amps and Speakers.

What I have is a Punch 800a2 amp (5 yrs old)  that I want to hook to just one speaker.  Maybe a 12" solo-baric in the downfire position.  But I dont know.  I've had this amp hooked to 4 10"s before and also 2 10"s.  But I only want one speaker in this new truck.  Any Suggestions?

I was told one time that this amp was unstable with an odd number of speakers.  If thats true can I correct that by having dual voice coils?

Also how should I hook this "new" speaker up to this amp?        If you guys could just give me some options that would be great.

I dont want to burn the amp up or get a speaker that I will blow.  I remember seeing something on a sheet with this amp 5 years ago that said something like it will push 974 amps rms I think.  (if that helps any)  THANKS!!

Here are some reviews on that amp.  Should be straight foward and simple to hook up.  It looks like it has bridging diagram shown on the amp, and will easily power a 4 ohm load bridged.  A single voice coil 4 ohm sub would be what you want.  Search for the amplifier's 4 ohm bridged output rating and buy a sub that will perform with that level of power.

It doesn't make any difference to the amplifier how many speakers or coils are hooked up to it.  Just the net impedance is important, and you will want to get to 4 ohms and nothing lower(in bridged mode) for full power .  Keep in mind, when bridging a two channel amp, 4 ohms bridged is equal to a 2 ohm stereo output...and the amplifier specs will tell you the output.

this amp can run a dual voice coil 2 ohm =2ohm or a sincle voice coil at 4 ohm, i would buy a rf punch stage 3 dual 2 ohm,  will run this sub nice just treat this sub like it is 2 subs run one voice coil off of each channel and get a solid 350 per channel,  when i install this sub i usally put a 1000 watt amp on each one and it sound great
