I had a Kenwood Excelon KDC - X817 that died (3 years and a car wreck..not to bad). A few months after warranty was up. Ive been driving in silence for close to a month and I cant take it anymore. So for right now I was thinking about just putting my stock radio back in until I can buy a new deck. (Thats the problem with going to college, after paying for tuition there isnt money left for the important things in life). So I gues I have 2 questions:
1.) Kenwood Retailers: how much would it be to get my deck fixed. I think its the cable. Basically the faceplate is just stuck in the load cd position. Before it went out half of the display went out, and it would periodically come back.
2.) I have a sub amp and an amp for my components. What do I need to get inorder to hook up my factory deck, since it doesnt have rca's.
I have a 98 Dodge Stratus ES
Thanks in advance.
If you want to put the factory deck back in I can help you with that. Get a line output converter (LOC) and a harness to plug into your factory radio. Best Buy keeps them in stock, just ask for 71-1817 and get a converter from them. Get a 2 channel LOC if you have 2 rca's up front or a 4 channel LOC if you have 4 or 6 rca's up front. If you have 6 rca's you will have to use (2) "1 male to 2 female" rca adapters with the 4 ch. LOC. From there wire your converter to the harness you got from Best Buy and just pretend the factory radio is a new Kenwood. It should color code into the harness you have in the car now just like your Kenwood does. The only drawback to doing this is if you have 4 or 6 rca's it could get expensive and be better by just getting the radio fixed.
kenwoods are nown to fu ck up with the motorized face thingy...try to press the reset button either on the faceplate itself or the area behind it.. sould be a little little button that you press with the tip of a pencil..look in owners manual
