It is a personal preference type thing.  Search the forum for opinions on rear-fill.  Many people like rear fill.  I don't.

Even most folks that use rear-fill will agree that it should be close to the last priority in your budget.

You don't need them for either best sound quality or more volume.  Good fronts will do that for you if selected and set up right.  Some of us do, however, like to place rear speakers in the car's original rear openings and use them too.  That is a certain sound effect that I've always experienced in cars and is different from what I experience in the house.  I turn them down to the point where, when sitting in the front seats, you don't know they're there....but they contribute to that "car sound".  But if you enjoy what you have now and are fully satisfied with the sound field in the car, there's no reason to add rears just because some other people do.

i enjoy rearfill it fills the atmosphere in my buick. but as stev and kfr mentioned i would hold it till the last. i have my speakers set between 60%front-40%rear and when i have company in the back i sometimes set it 50-50 because most of my company likes more rear anyways.

its not an option to ignore imo, but dont put it on high priority, if you already are going for fronts and or a sub.
