hello, i've got a 95 dodge neon that i'm currently planning on installin 3 - 10" subs in the trunk and having them sealed from the rest of the car and ported through  a custom fiberglass rear shelf, but i've got a delema, i work for a store that sells pioneer but i like the specs on eclipse subs. anyone have any info for each, the pioneer subs i'm looking at are the SPL series 10" and the eclipse subs are SW9102 10" subs.  i will be running them off a pioneer class D 1000watt mono amp for the time untill i can afford a better and larger amp. also would it be safe to say that  i could hit the mid 150 db mark? or does anyone have any other idea for my system that could be more efficent?

Speaking from experience, (and I hate to give the nod to Pioneer over Eclipse) 1000 watts will NOT be enough for 2 SW9102's... They would like about 1000 watts EACH... If you are willing to sacrifice a bit of output until you get your better (and WAY BIGGER) amp, then my choice swings to the Eclipse, of course. WAY better sound quality, but as I said, power hungry...

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

guess i wasn't as clear as i thought posted_image  i meant that each sub was going to get one of the pioneer 1000watt amps running mono at 2 ohms.  so there would be 3 subs and 3 sub amps.

If you got an amp per sub, you definitely will need a high output alt, second battery,, or a massive capacitor (50 farad). I'd get a high output, but anyways i go with the eclipse over pioneer anyday. They are strong and will serve you very well. I say you'd hit 140 ish with 3 of them, depends on how well your install is. install = everything.

I second the vote for eclipse, and I would also strongly recommed a HO alternator. There is no way the dinky stock neon alt. will be able to adequetly provide power for 3 1000W amps.

Hey.  I'm a Premier fan, only because I've compared them to every other woofer I can think of, but i have just one question.  How much do these Eclipse subs cost?  My experience with Eclipse is that yes, they do make excellent subs and head units, but similar to Alpine, atleast dealing with head units,  it is necessary to spend some serious cash for the top-line models in order to surpass the competition, and in some cases even avoid design flaws in the lower and mid-line models .  Kind of like buying a McLaren to beat an STi.  I've noticed a pattern of noise and quality issues associated with lower and mid-line Alpine and Eclipse products among other posts in this forum...  Just my two cents.  posted_image

Eclipse makes some of the best if not the best headunits out  there.. Read up on the specs CD8454 headunit and you will see. As for the subs I have never heard of any Pioneer sub out performing any Eclipse model ever! Sub price is in the same range as Diamond Audio subs and not as much as JLAudio unless you get into the PRO series Eclipse.. No doubt you will find that I'm a huge Eclipse fan by reading some of my posts, I've had so many different brands through out my years and I can honestly say they make excellent products. posted_image

Eclipse, brings tears to my eyes. These subs will lay adequate waste to the Pioneer speakers, provided the box is correct and the amp is matched properly and like was said before, install is bang on. These subs have a truly amazing potential when used properly and they sound good whilst doing it.

Well I failed to do my homework this time and investigate the Eclipse subs.  My debate earlier was over price.  Now I have seen the Eclipse SW9102 10" subs and priced them.  The least expensive place i found them sold them for $349.99!!  Obviously this is not an even comparison by any means.  The $350 Price tag on one Eclipse would buy you three of the Pioneer subs and then some.  I apologize for misunderstanding your original question Stang351w.  Pioneer just didn't intend to compete with this breed of Eclipse.  Atleast not at the 10" level.  posted_image  12 inches is another story entirely.

If you can afford it, and already have the three amps, I'd say go for the Eclipse. If you're looking for other options to compare at the 10" level, you might look elsewhere than Pioneer.

Eclipse is in another universe as said, as i believe it is way above Premier. Eclipse makes a fantastic head unit, the only thing i can think of that is better is yes, you know, Nakamichi. I know your sick and tired of me blabbing on Nakamichi but yet, i think it is better. BLA BLA BLA BLA. Let it die for god sakes.... but anywho, Eclipse subs bang and are great. SQ never fades in them until you reach their extreme limits. A lot better than any Premier.
