92 ford explorer eddie bauer - has the premium sound. I did cut the plug off the grey cable thinking that would be the speaker cables. Now what? How would I hook up a bypass harness if I cut the plug off?  help!

Do you already have a bypass harness?

thanks a lotposted_image

Unfortunately, we clipped the wires close to the plug (so we'd have more wire to work with -ugh!!!!!!)

Here's what you can do. Use a bypass harness and don't worry about that grey cable. Metra makes a harness you can use, 70-5602. This will have a plug to go onto the amp output plug in the rear with 17' of wire and a power plug to go up front.

as long as you don't have the jbl/lux premium system you don't have to bypass the ford oem amp.  (your factory head unit will say jbl if it is!). if its jbl, you must bypass by accessing the amp in the passenger rear quarter panel, but you will lose the factory sub!

for the non-jbl premium systems, factory color codes (PRE-AMP)are:

LF+=GREEN,  LF-=WHITE, RF+=WHITE/ RED, RF-=BROWN, LR+BLUE/BLACK, LR-=YELLOW, RR+=PURPLE / WHITE, RR-=BLUE

Look back behind the dash for a harness that looks like the power harness but is plugged into a female harness, I know it sounds stupid. I believe it should be grey on both the male and female harness. Some ford vehicles have both the premium sound harness and the regular harness behind the dash. If it is there then your speaker leads will be in that harness.

dedlyjedly, you are almost right as the only JBL systems you have to bypass in the Explorers is the 95'-97's as they have a tuner box in the rear that has to be eliminated. In a 92' it is a fair game unless you have the highline system with a sub. I recommended the amp bypass because the data cable was cut in the front and I was giving him an easy way out.
