Hey everyone,

Any of yall heard of these ports, They come in 3,4,6" diameter, and you can cut them to desired lengths. The reviews say they should raise your score 2-3 dB's higher. True? I need some expert options, sounds like a deal to good to be true..These ports range in price from 13-25 dollars...

thanks

I think not... a port is a port is a port. It does not matter what the geometry of the port is, a helmholtz resonator (vented box) is ONLY 3dB more efficient than a sealed box, and that's at ONE FREQUENCY, not across the bandwidth.

The geometry of the port CAN have an effect on the wind noise the port makes, and there are many fixes to that issue, too, but there is no "magic port" to make the box louder than any other port.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

... unless of course they mean 2-3 db higher output than a similar sealed enclosure.posted_image

Ya, i think thats what they meant by it a 2-3 dB gain over sealed enclosures, if these ports were magical, they  would sell out so fast haha..

But thanks, for answerin the question i coulda answered my self..

OK I looked them up.  "Aeroport" is simply a trademarked name by Rockford Fosgate for their line of flared plastic ports.  They are no diffrerent from any other flared port (although they claim "special geometry" on the flare to help reduce 6th order harmonics.)  The 2-3db "increase" in SPL is, as I thought, based on using the same loudspeaker in a sealed cabinet and is what any port will produce, exactly as haemphyst described.
