common speaker channels?

Hi, I'm trying to install an old stereo into an even older car :p

The car is standard, positive/negative connections on each speaker.

The stereo itself, however, has positives up front, negatives in the rear, and then two extra wires labeled "Right Common speaker" and "Left Common speaker".

Now if it weren't for these confusing common channels I'd assume it was to be wired in serial, since that's the only real way the wiring seems to work out.

Any ideas? Should I just get a newer stereo? It's really only to provide CD functionality for my friends car.

You are most likely looking at the diagram incorrectly. You should have 4 positive wires and two negative wires. Contact the manufactuer to be 100%. With a common ground radio like yours you would have to hook up both negatives on one side of your wiring harness to the sole negative of one side of your radio harness. The same for the other side. Positives will be self explanatory.

Well just skipping ground/antenna/etc wires
I have Left Front Positive
Right Front Positive
Rear Left Negative
Rear Right Negative
thus far making me think "wire in serial"
then Left Common
and Right Common

So you say I should hook up the wires as appropriate for serial but also treat the commons as negatives and hook them up to the rear negative (speaker) connections as well?
I wasn't sure what kind of effect that would have but I'm willing to go for it.

You that reall makes no sense but if it was me and I didnt care if the radio went poof I would hook up the front positive speaker leads to the front positive leads off the deck. I would take the rear positive channels of the rear speakers and hook them up to the rear negative leads off the deck. I would then take the left negative leads off the left speakers and hook them up to the left negative leed off the the deck. then do the same with the right. I dont know if this will work but its the only way common ground decks ever work. I dont know why the rear leads say negative but it cant be right, I dont see any way it can at least. And last its series not seriel wiring. :)

the common channels actually say "Left Common Speaker" and "Right Common Speaker"
Thanks to Ravendarat for the correction, too many hours working at PC repair :p

The model is a White-Westinghouse Model No. WW5
came out of another car and donated to me. Don't know what make of car. It says manufactured by Kmart March 1997.
I can give a full wire listing if you need it. if noone can think of anything I'll wire it in series and just hope for the best.
