I just got an MTX MXA4001 Mono it doesnt power up so I got ahold of MTX and they said for $65.00 plus shipping I could send it to them and they would recondition it

First off I've never used a recondition piece of equipment, has anyone here? is the quality going to be the same as it would if its was brand new?

Is this amp even worth reconditing or just buy it new

I've never done it with an amp, but I bought a factory reconditioned Pioneer Premier HU and its run pefectly for 5 years now.  Supposedly, if it is reconditioned, it is tested heavily at the factory or wherever they do the reconditioning to make it as "like new" as possible.

Looks like a new amp would run you approx. $280.00, personally for that, I would get the one you have reconditioned and save the $$ for next time.

Thanks for the Reply Stryker124,  Iv'e spent most of the day looking over different compaines recondtioning process and it seems the rebuild it and test it better than they do with the new equipment they make

Plus I can overnite it using my companies UPS account and attached a prepaid Overnite slip in the box, so I wont even have to worry about shipping

I have a factory reconditioned amp from PPI. Works like a champ, plus, it was half the price of a new one.

I have a reconditioned (or "renewed" as companies like to call it) JBL 600.1, and my friend has a recondioned Kenwood amp. Both are working fine so far.

Thanks all I sent it out today, Ive got a Brutus BX1000D comming into me that no sound is coming out of it, and Hifonics will refurb it for $125.00, I may send that off next month

Ive heard the Brutus will out perform the MXA4001 so at least I'll have 2 choices to power my RF P2 12's

Thanks again for the input

Just so you are aware, companies that charge a flat rate for reconditioning replace the circuit board of the amp. So basicly they give you a new amp in your amp's chassis. There is nothing wrong with this.

Many reconditioned units are just customer returns for reasons as petty as they changed their mind - but they are deemed "refurbs" and go through the process just so the unit can carry a full warranty again.  I had a friend who used to work for Panasonic doing "factory refurbs" on weekends - he said some of these still had the harnesses and brackets still sealed, or were missing minor parts so they were returned to the factory as "used".

I have 2 refurb head units and both look and operate as new.
