I'm wondering if home stereo speakers can be wired in different ways (series/parallel) to get more power out of the receiver, by dropping the impedance. Is this a sure way to fry the receiver? Also, if these are full range speakers, with crossovers built into the box, will this affect it too? Just curious.

Home Theatre recievers arn't usually meant to go below 4 ohms, so go with the normal wiring method. Not highly advisable, if you want more power, then go with a seperate amp and use the reciever as a pre-amp.

This is a good HT site & forum https://www.audioholics.com

And indeed many home amps and receivers will not handle less than 8 ohms.

Thanks for the replies, and that link is just the place I've been looking for.

It's no problem. I would rather answer the same question a hundred times over than see someone do a crazy thing like that and fry everything they spent their hard earned money on. It's so depressing to see someone loose all their hard work because of a little curiosity.
