The shop i work at is looking for a new line of subwoofers to carry and re audio is under serious consideration. we don't have any experience with these speakers, so i was wondering if anyone had any comments, good or bad, on them. we've been told that the XXX 12 is comparable to the JL Audio W7, and the SX Series would have no trouble keeping up with a Kicker L7 12. Any opinions? thanks....

I would take take on RE subs in a heartbeat if I were you. They make great stuff and I dont think their are many dealers for them (their are none in my area that I know of).

thats what i thought i'd hear....their product looks great, you can tell the stuff is for real, not just some cheapo knock-off sh*t. i was thinking about buying one at reatail cost, probably the SX 12" for $270, to try their stuff out. i have a Kicker X100S 50x2 Class AB amp sitting around i thought would push it good. what do you think? will i be impressed? is it worth me spending the money on that kind of blind investment?

i forgot, the X100S is 50x2 at 4 ohms, 100x2 at 2 ohms, and so on down to 1/2 stereo...kicker rated it at 800 rms, but i clocked it once at around 1300 watts with a test tone.

I was gonna just say that kicker amp is actually quite a bit of power, if you can load it down. What voice coil configurations is that sub avalible in?

all of the SX series subs are dual 2ohm so i would just run the amp at 1ohm mono. the rms rating on the sub is 1000 watts, and since i should only expect that X100S to put out aroung 800 should i get a bigger amp, or will i get the kind of preformance it i want out of it? how power hungry are these things?

you can get great performance from that setup... go for it.. i think youll lve it... in the right enclosure..

i thought about the XXX, it specs out at 2000 watts rms. i don't think that X100S has enough guts to move that kind of monster sub.

build the right enclosure, and you'll need significantly less power to push it to full excursion.

but wouldn't i be better off running the SX? i could push it to almost it's full potential with the amp i plan to run. i want good clean solid bass, and if i build a box that will allow the XXX to max out at 1/2 it's rated power, don't you think things would get kinda sloppy outside of it's tunned frequency? i could get a different amp, but i wanted to run that kicker because it's got quite a bit of power, and it's also class a/b, which makes it's sq undeniable. i can definatly tell the difference between it and a class d amp that may be even a little bigger. is the SX junk? or is it just that the XXX is that much more sub?

I dont ever remember seeing a sub that needed as much power as its rated for.  Besides, it wont burn out or anything with less power.  Longer it lasts the better.

What are you looking for out of the sub?  The XXX uses our XBL^2 motor topology, so it will play with less distortion at a given output level than their other subs including the SX.  This means it will be the superior SQ sub.  Now I'm not too familiar with their other products, and don't know what the Xmax is on the SX.  But I'm pretty sure it is higher on the XXX.  This means it has the potential to be louder.

hummm the xxx.. like adire's other products ("mother company").... the xxx has Xbl^2 technology... basically a flatter bl curve...= enhanced sq factor here.. this sub "just plain sounds good". as far as the statement "you can hurt a speaker by under powering it..?  YES you can damage a speaker , just as easy as over powering it except with under power you cant get all the kool stuff like blowing the cones off. I did an re xxx truck here in california that used 8 rexxx 12's and 1250 a piece.. to say that i "underpowered" them would be false.. id say 13-1500 rms is ideal 8 is a little on the low side but you sould be ok.. now since this sub is Xbl^2  you will NOT hear it "blowing" it's self up.. so do not try to over drive it.. do not send it a signal that you pump the crap out of... do not build some crappy box... and you will love it..

We recently picked up RE and we have been extremely happy with them.  Lately all we have sold is RE.  We can make a good margin and still feel good about the price we sell them to the customer.  I'd recommend the line to any store owner except ones that are near me.

Heading the Warranty department at Adire Audio, I unfortunately see this all the time.  A standard overhung motored sub audibly distorts worse and worse as you push it toward its limits.  But unfortunately an XBL^2 motor allows it to sound just as distortion free up to the end.  So you have to be a little more careful and listen for mechanical noises that let you know you are pushing it too far.  It's like learning how to drive a manual transmission from an automatic.  You kind of have to learn how to drive all over again, but once you do you realize the benifits.

alright...i think i've decided to go with the XXX. what amp should i use to run it? how does a bramah match up with the XXX?

The XXX is a bit more of an SPL sub while the Brahma is a bit more of an SQ sub.  The XXX can handle abuse better and can be pushed a little further, so it has a slight output potential advantage.  It also is a little more efficient.  The Brahma requires a smaller enclosure, will provide a flatter frequency response, and have a little better transient response due to the lower inductance.  But these are very slight differences.  You should be very happy with either one.

Although I should mention that we are re-vamping our line for 2005 and there are some changes being made.  We will have our Tumult sub as our top SQ offering, so keep your eyes open for when we release the information on our new line-up.
