Ok, i have a box that is exactly 1.29 cubic feet, and an Alpine type-R 12" sub that displaces .128 cubic feet from the box.  Thats a total of 1.162 cubic feet of air left in my box.  now i was hopeing to try porting it , i listen to music from Dire Straits , to Swollen members and bass tests.  So i like my sq, but like my bass more so.  What would be a good frequencie to tune too?  That is if my box isn't too small in the first place.

I want this to hold me off until the 2005 Type-R's come out so i can start my fiberglassing.

I don't have any box programs. If you could reccomend the exact port, or ports that would be very helpful.

Thanks alot!

It would probably be easiest to just start and build a new box.   If you want a reasonable amount of sound quality still I would go with a vented or slot ported enclosure

round port 4x17 tunes it to 37hz  f3 is 36 ... at 38hz it is 9db louder.. pretty flat slope.. slight peak from 43-35 ..only 1.5db no polyfill.

well, you could try a bandpass box, but if this is a rather tempary situation, then that's probally too much trouble.  I'd try to get it tuned as low as you can, down to about 20 to 25 Hz, but that'll take ports like 3 or more feet long.

i have never tuned anything that low.... it would be a waste.. i tune most all subs to 32 .. as close to their fs as possible..

So i totally don't have enough room to put a 4" port haha, , so i guess im building a new box.

Any cubic foot reccomendations? and port size?         I guess i'll try to find some info on how to build a slot port, could try that for a change.

K, i think i have decided to go for a 75% spl box and 25% half ass sq .     I already have my sealed box for sq, , , , , ,so i would like to go for a box that will unleash the type-r.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, sorry for changing my mind all over the place.

its kool... the whole rerason your sealed box is going to be good for sq is because its so big.... the bigger the sealed box the flatter the curve... ok for slot port....... 1.5cuft   15inx12inx20in     port is 13.5 tall by 1.75wide  and 30in deep tunes it to 37 down 3db is 35.4 with 300watts.. good luck    port noise is minimal..13.1m/s at 37hz.. is the peak................thats very good..

so if the port is 30" deep im asumeing i need to go in then wrap it around the back while maintaining the 1.75" port width?

yes....that is correct... or you can even bring it back ... like a 180.... just remember always 1.75 in..... port on one side sub on the other...   BUT STILL ON THE SAME FACE ... i hope that makes sence
