I installed a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I followed the stereo wiring chart from the site, except there are no wires on the Pioneer harness for the illumination wire or the dimmer wire. I turned the car on, turned on the deck, and it plays, but there is no sound at all. Visually, the deck plays, so it shouldn't be a problem with the ground (using the ground from the factory harness), but I don't really know for sure. Any ideas?

OK, ignore this post....stupid chassis grounds. Put a screw in the back of the deck, attached a wire, grounded it, it worked perfectly. Whoever had the problem with the Neon with no sound, thanks for the idea.

OK, back again....did the final install, tightened everything down, turned it on...problem's back. I have no idea what's going on with this thing, I've tried everything....

Oh yeah. I cut the ground wire and tried running it directly to the chassis. Not only is there no sound, but also, even with the ground cut, the stereo still comes on. WTH?

The older guys probably have a better idea, but you may just have to run new wires for the speakers. It'll be a pain the a$$ but, if you really want your sound............

I say that meaning there may be something wrong with the harness

That's probably what it'll come down to. I'm still wondering why the stereo stays on without a ground...

its grounding thru the antenna. take a meter and check to make sure each speaker is reading 4ohms
