Subject: 2000W worth of sub

hi, ive been searching for ages but i cant decide what sub or combo of subs i want for my car. its in an 88 supra, so 2000W (peak) might even be too much for a unibody car but oh well my liking to bass is probably just as out of proportion.

the combo has to have an effective impedance of 2 ohms and i dont really want to spend more than 5-600 AUS dollars. i was looking at getting 2 800W pioneers ($500 - with box) or a 2000W DVC pioneer ($600 - no box) but from what ive read pioneer are carp for everything but head units, even though alot of mates have awesome pioneer systems.

i dont really want top quality either, i dont care about spl i never intend to enter it in comps, i just want some pretty loud bass that isnt too sloppy.

pioneer may even be good enough for this? but i just wanna look at some other options anyway

so whats your opinion?

If your not wanting top of the line i wouod go with a pair of perfect 12", or if you want some slamming bass for about 600.00 the pl3 Rockford punch stage 3, You can get this in a dual 12" Vented enclosure and You will rock, I have a single feeding about 1000 watts and getting 135 db. One would probably be enough for you for around 350.00,They are dvc you can get the dual 2 phm run each sub in series this will give you 4 ohms a sub then run the subs in parallel to get 2 ohms for a mono amp at 2 ohms, or if you have a 2 ch, get the dual 4 ohms and run them in parallel to get your 2 ohms per sub

I would jump on ebay, and if ur amps hav the balls, ya can pick up a 12" Type X sub (3000W MAX), or twin Type R 12" subs (2000W MAX)...  It just depends on whether your keen on buyin the gear off ebay or would prefer to go with a dealer.... and if u hav the amps to push them.

eeek. All this talk about max power hurts my eyes. Don't talk about it. It means nothing - talk in RMS instead.

Also, this hang up on power is misplaced. Power is important only in comparing subs in specific enclosures. Try downloading some enclosure / subwoofer modeling software - then you'll really have some help determining what to buy.

I'd go with a pair of perfect's too.  There awsome as far as SQ goes, there not too bad with SPL, and there cheap (use froogle, I got mine for $120 or so, and that was a DVC).  If you get two of those (SVC, not dual) and put 'em in a sealed or bandpass box (your preference there, I like sealed, but alot of people don't), and then you can even get an alpine MRD-M501 amp for $215 or so (again, use froogle), which will put out about 560 - 580 watts (It is rated at 550 @ 2 ohms, but they are tested from the factory, and they include their actual RMS power output (mine was 578 watts.....yeah!)  That whole setup would run you about $500 or so with shipping included.  That dosen't include the box though, but a sheet of MDF is only $22, so it'll be cheap if you can build it yourself.=

hmmm cant seem to find an edit post button, i forgot to say i dont mind buying off ebay, thats where ive got ALL my gear so far from - Pioneer 9650MP (for 1/3 of RRP), 2.4F cap and 2000W amp which are lanzar (ok everyone have a whinge i know alot of people hate lanzar but a lot of people also like them - besides i cant afford a 1000W rms amp of any other brand) but i nearly did buy a 1000W peak/500rms pioneer.

i just noticed you wrote that the rockford punch took 1000W, must have been a different sub i saw, but it did have "punch" written across it. never heard of perfect - research time...

That amp will probably actually only put out about 500 watts rms.  So looking into a sub in that range would be a good idea.  Lanzar is over rated.  1 sub, in a properly ported box will slam.  The alpine SBR-122CR is a very very loud set up.

ebay posted_image .  But definately look at what 97pathy said.  That amp truely can only put out about 500 watts rms, , so look into 2 or 1subs in that range.

Ebay is the way. Search your wallet, you know it to be true.
