Setting up Alpine X-overs

I have just pieced my system together and am now at the fun stage of extracting the performance i want out of it.

My question is in relation to setting the crossover points within the Alpine 9815 as i am just setting them this way for now before i get around to fine tuning with the amplifiers filters (currently running full pass with the head unit doing the job) The unit is set in 3-way mode and my main concern is what the setting for the tweeter should be before i start winding up the new components. Current settings are:

Low - 80 Mid-80 & 200 High- Not sure where to set. The other possibility is that this doesn't matter as the components crossovers may take care of ensuring that the wrong signal doesn't damage the tweet - which is why i am seeking help here.

I would also like to hear opinions on amp combos or options for my 2 Soundstream T4 - 12's as although they are still new and yet to bed in i think the Earthquake PHD's 1000rms@4ohm may not be enough for these massive motors. Remembering that these are dual 1ohmVC subs which limits choices.

Anyway, as far as you setup is concerned, the Alpine setup in 3-way mode gives you the folling crossover options:

Low: 20 Hz - 200 Hz
Mid High pass: 20 Hz - 200 Hz
Mid Low pass: 20 Hz - 20 kHz
High: 1 kHz - 20 kHz

The problem I see is that if you are to set your mid's for 80 to 200, then there is a huge gap between 200 and 1K.  1K is the lowest setting possible for the high's.  This is where using the component crossovers comes into play.  

What speakers are you using?  Do you have a seperate midbass driver?  How about amps?  How many channels do you have to use?

Ok thanks i embarked on a trip to another stereo shop who deal with both Alpine and Focal who i assumed would understand the set up best. The speakers are Focal K2 Power 3 ways which are ran of four seperate channels of the Soundstream Van Gogh.

They instantly recommended switching back to 2 way mode and then simply dialed in 63hz on all channels (low pass sub channel and high pass for the front and rear outputs which both go to the four channel) with the steepest slope available. They also stored the same setup using 80hz for me to decide what i like best. This solved the frequency gap problem you noticed and allowed the components crossovers to do there job as you pointed out.

This setup instantly sounded amazing compared to the way i set it up and i came away very pleased with the sound i now had.

Another question i have is that although i have decided that there is no need to have the  subs go any louder than they already do would more power make them sound more effertless and smooth in there response or would it sound the same as they do now in relation to being set at the same level?

It's actually 1000rms between the two so approx. 500 per sub which is fairly underpowered as they do like 900rms per sub.
