Since my deck and amps were ripped off last week I've narrowed my decision down to these two. I was sold on the Eclipse, but I'm having second thoughts. Anyone have any advice, pros/cons to each? Also, I'm still looking for a dealer for both, perhaps online. My local dealer sells both, but doesn't stock either, and says they will take a while to get. Thanks!

Whell, , im hard core alpine, would never buy anything different, totally love the cda-9835.....yet im buying a CD8454  . Mostly because of hassles with my boss, , but i know im getting a little better unit. Seems the Eclipse is actually cheeper too. I love my Eclipse 8443. For the price, I don't think it gets a lot better. They basically have the same feature set, but Eclipse seems to have spent a bit more time on the cd transport, dac, dsp, and pre-outs than Alpine.
Alpine seems to have spent some package space and resources on the stupid v-Drive amplification thing. Does anyone buying a deck retailing at over $500 really want to use deck power? No. They want a clean cd / processor / pre-amp. Period. I think the Eclipse provides this for cheaper.
Just my 2c. Alpine certainly has some features that the Eclipse doesn't have. For some people this might push the decision to Alpine. It didn't for me.

Those things were never really big things anyways. Whell, the v-drive amp, but who spends the money to get the units with the v-drive amp, and actually use's them! haha I have a question about the Eclipse security. I heard a while back if the cd player gets stolen, Eclipse can track it down. They dont still have that do they? ESN, Eclipse Security Network, works like this: you program a key cd, like a master disc, that will unlock your deck if it has loss of power like when some dick steals the thing out of your car. with out that key cd it can't be powered up without calling Eclipse's ESN Claims Dept., proving ownership and entering the override code they give you. you do have to register your cd player when you buy it, so you can prove ownership, but most good theives know that a stolen Eclipse deck is useless, and that is prevention there too. Eclipse will aslo replace a stolen cd player for free within one year of purchase. I myself just bought a CD8454 and it's awesome. The E-iSREV is a really cool toy to tweak your system with, and the memorystick capabilities are good too. the only thing i would complain about is that the NOB remote could be more responsive. it seems kinda doggy. but i put mine in a car i just bought, a 92 accord, and don't even have plates on yet. it has four blown speakers, the fronts are factory originals, and just by tweaking the timealignment, crossover, and doing the auto set on the parametric eq, they sound good. not real good, but good compared to four speakers that aren't blown. i can't imagine a more perfect thing to put in my dash.

I also have some concerns about Eclipse's security. Since you own one, I thought I'd ask your opinion. Being a man who used to live in the ghetto and had his car broken into for the system some 4 times in 2 years (ever time I had forgotten to take my faceplate off), I'm really wary about this Eclipse security. It sounds like the whole idea of Eclipse is reliant on a "smart" theif that knows a stolen Eclipse is useless. To me the words 'smart' and 'theif' don't really go together. I just have a bad feeling a lot of 'dumb' thieves will bust up my car and window just to learn this lesson. Do you know anybody with an Eclipse that's had it stolen? Have you had any problems?

I had my eclipse deck stolen recently and here is the deal: If it is stolen within the first year of purchase it is replaced for free with an equivalent deck, however if its past the one year mark (which mine was) the only thing that they can do is hope that the theif or the person that buys the deck from the theif will call the 1800 number that displays on the deck with the security feature takes over. If they do they will have the deck sent back to them and they will in turn send the deck back to you in. I will probably never see mine but the eclipse rep told me it was a good possibility as a lot of ppl actually do send them back in for repair. If they do send it back I will have a 5423 and an 8454

well dasmodul, if it does get stolen within a year, it's replaced. but, like peterhead said after that you have to wait for it to show up, but that does happen. if the original theif finds that it doesn't work, he'll probably sell it. most sh*t that stolen out of cars is porbably on it's way to being sold anyway, and the guy that buys it will try to hook it up. when it doesn't work the next step is to bring it into the local car audio shop, or call the number on the player, which traces back to your name and is then recovered and returned to you. thats ten tomes more than any other comapny offers for anything to fight theft, so it's worth it. it's free anyway, all you pay for is one of the greatest headunits you will ever own.

haha i LOVE my Alpine 9835... mostly because it looks freaking awesome and its easy to use... but like someone said b4 no one spending that much money on a head unit is going to use the HU power lol... i bought it purely off looks and i love it
