Heres the deal I bought 2 Alpine Type R 12s at my local shop and I went through 2 sets already and my amps gains are all the way down running at 4ohms stereo( Soundstream Rubicon 1002) so its only putting out about 500 watts to each i was wanting to upgrade but they only carry Fosgate, Alpine, Pioneer and Sony so they told me to upgrade to the P3, but are the P3 any better? If not what should I do

the p3 will handle 400watts rms compared to 300rms on the type r.... but I think the type-r  "sounds" better.... the dust caps of the fosgates break loose of the glue ....... this prob. might not be the sub though... I have a single type-r 10 with 650 rms.. (old mrv-1002 v12)  this problem might be your enclsoure..

ported doesnt mean its bad for it...lets just look at 1 thing.?  when you bought that box did it ANYWHERE say "for alpine type-r?"  ok then you need to design an enclosure for that sub... that amp.... in your vehicle...if you want give me external deminsions and ill do 1 up for you..

Possibly, you need a subsonic/infrasonic filter.  Even a properly designed ported/vented enclosure will not help if you continue to play frequencies bellow the tuning frequency.  If you do not want to use a subsonic or cannot, build a sealed enclosure.

I recently spent some time in my suburban with a MTX 7500 taking 600w rms from my JBL bp1200.1, it help up very well.  The enclosure was a MTX prefab, a "sledgehammer" enclosure.
