I had a sony cdx m8800  installed and the radio works great but there is no sound when a cd is played. My jeep has the infinity gold sound system. What could be the probelm?

Bad deck?  Is it under warranty?  If there's a reset button you should try pushing it to see if that fixes the problem.  You can try connecting an auxilary source to see if that works to.

The deck is brand new. What is the plastic plug with the two wires going to it for. It is not connected to anything at the moment. Should it be connected to something? One wire is white with black stripe the other is purple with black stripe.

Yes there is the factory amp under the back seat.

my guess is the 2 wires you said had nothing plugged in are subwoofer outputs.

Ditto Sancho...  mitch_tucker, your head unit has a blue wire (antenna remote) and a blue/white wire (amplifier remote turn on lead). Disconnect the wire in the vehicle that's connected to the blue wire and connect it to the blue/white wire.
