I have a 2004 Cavalier.  I just was given a JVC Kamelon.  My wiring harness has no remote 12 volt, so I had to run a fuse tap the JVC.  I relised that i lost all my chimes.  Can some one explain to me how the OEM headunit work with out the remote 12 volt, and how to get my door chimes back.  I know theres some product out that cost 80 bucks or so.  but is there a way for me to do it buy my self.  Any help would help. thanks

The factory door chime is produced in side the stock radio and transmitted through the drivers door speaker.

The stock radio communicates with the vehicles computer via a databus...the computer will tell the stock radio when to turn on, when to emit the door chime sound and can tell the radio to do other things but these are the most noticable.

The interfaces that go for about 60-80 bucks connect to the databus and have accessory 12 volt outputs for switched power....as well as a built in speaker so that you keep your chime....

The cost of these units is well worth it when you consider that they plug right into the factory harness and allow a very quick and painless installation without the lost of vehicle features....

The other problem you will run into is loss of airbags if you do not use that module. I work at circuit city and sell enough of this stuff to know that without it you can run into major trouble.

I've never seen the airbags be affected without using the GMRC1.  Jus the loss of the chimes and the timed delay after ignition off.  How many have you seen trip an airbag system light?
