What will happen if I dont install the metra box that retains the door chime on my 04 silverado? The guys at circuit city told me that my message center will flip out and things will go wrong, is he just trying to sell me something I dont need? Also where can I get the install stuff I need for a good price? Thanks for the help and information!

nothing will flip out, go crazy, or anything like that. the GMRC-01 interface is a conveinence thing. it provides 12v accessory and the door chimes that will be lost when you remove the radio. if you care about the door chimes, and don't mind getting a 12v accessory wire somewhere else, just buy the 70-2003 harness.

They don't make the harness's for no reason! you should use it, its an $80 to protect your very expensive investment. Seems no one can pin point what it affects, cuz every vehicle acts differently when the proper data retention harness isn't used. So have no effect, some flip right out.
