Hi,
I have just installed a Pioneer 7600MP in my 2001 Honda Civic. I'm afraid I might have done the wiring wrong. Since I installed it my battery died (it has never died in the past). I boosted, drove for 15 mins. Then while driving attached the face on the deck. 3 minutes later my battery died while I was driving. Would this be a wiring or a battery problem?

Hard to say. Did you use a wiring harness adapter? Are any fuses blowing?

Support the12volt.comI used a wiring harness. No fuses are blowing. The deck works fine. Just when I plug it in, I know it places a huge load on the battery. The only wire I wasn't sure about was the ILL one, (i'm guessing illumination). It believe it was ORANGE / white, I connected it to the other ORANGE / white wire. There was another orange wire that I did not use.
You can go to any advance auto store and they will check you battery and alternator for free.
if all you did was install a cd player into your car i can't see it killing your battery that fast, i've got a load of stereo equipment in my neon withthe stock alternator and the battery doesn't go dead while i'm driving, maybe if i sat there with it cranked for 2 hours, but not 15 min. i agree with byrumjr. or if you can't get to one of those stores clean up your battery terminals and make sure there's no corrision on them and check your alternator belt, maybe it's loose and slipping causeing your alternator not to charge the battery right. but to me is sounds like a fluke. i've had it happen..some women claimed because i installed a car starter in yer 2002 escape that she had to get a new bettery 4 weeks later (oddly enough we had like a -30 temp that night when her battery went dead) go figure :P
you connected the ORANGE / white from the HU to which other ORANGE / white wire? did you meter it to verify that it was an illumination lead?
it's rare for a deck to cause a brownout while driving, even if hooked up horribly incorrectly.... i would suspect an alternator problem of some kind.....sounds to me like you are running off the battery alone.....

The deck does work fine. If I hooked up the wires wrong, something on the deck would have to not work right?
But it sounds right that I was running off just battery. I don't think the alternater is working. When I boosted the car, I put the lights on, and that caused the car to die again. Again, I've never had any battery/alternator problems before.
What causes an alternator to go? It is really cold out here, maybe that's why?
Yep, that'll do it. Either the alternator or the voltage regulator. Get thee to an auto repair shop! :)
