So...i was in this shop the other day looking around, and i heard one of their sales guys telling a customer w/ chraging system problems that "he shouldn't get one of those round caps that are called stiffining caps, they are junk, what you need is a block capacitor like the one i have thats made by alumapro. it has instant chrage and discharge so it's alot better." isn't that wrong? i'll admit im not real familiar with caps, because i have allways figured the money was better spent on a better alternator or battery, but don't the "round ones" and the "block caps" do the same thing. i know the alumapro he was talking about comes in values much  larger than your aberage one of two farad, but isn't that just an obvious advantage? are these two different types of caps that work differently, or the same thing?

Yes, a cap is a cap is a cap... IT WILL NEVER FIX ANY ISSUE - IT IS A CRUTCH! If this guy has a charging problem, he needs to update his electrical system, pure and simple... We've been over this, haven't we?

(That's NOT directed at you, soundmasta. It's directed at the salesguy at your example car audio store...)

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

thats what i thought. l mean i was pretty sure, but like i said, i've always reccomended a new alternator because a cap doesn't fix. it just helps. i jsut wanted to be absolutely positive before i decide to go back to this other shop and make this know it all look like an ass.

Caps are always good for a bebate.  There Junk, as sound master said get a decent battery (i use optima yellow top) massive dischage current and deep cycle are wot ur after.  Witha system pullin around 100Amps, 1 or even 10 farads will not even last a second. Forget em.  They look nice n pretty though posted_image
