i have a single cab dodge ram with very little cabin gain. it is sound deadened. i have tried putting my sub in other people's cars to get an idea of how much of a handicap i have volume wise and it blows my mind. i can say im a much better at building boxes than i was beforeposted_image. is there anything else i can do to help short of stuffing it? would be funny as hell to see someone open their door and have fiberfill or something fall out.

Sorry, not much. You'll want to compensate for your lack of cabin gain by designing a system that isn't built with the knowledge that cabin gain will give you a boost below 50hz. This means that you either:

1) Seal, but buy a very nice high excursion subwoofer, some sort of mechanism to give a quality parametric eq bumb, and amplification with extra headroom

or

2) Build a ported box with tuning freq. down low.

A regular sealed box with a car subwoofer in a car with little cabin gain will probably disappoint if you compare it to large gain heavy sedans, suvs, hatch backs, etc.

crackhead ideas eh? try this on for size. go get one of those bed covers, that make the pick up look like a truck, u know what im talkin about. cut out the back window of the cabin, and weld that bed cover onto the truck. seal it all down, and put the woofer in the bed. that way, u too have ur own ghetto hatchback!

you know i was actually thinking about that.  the only problem would be that i would have to secure the bed a bit better.  it moves independantly from the cab.  anybody in the southern vermont area/new hampshire or northern ny or mass up for a weekend project.  im not friends with any great welders

Check out the archives of the fiberglass forum, a few months back someone did a install like that.  If you can find it, as him how he did it.  Thats not a project you can just tackle without lots of planning and measurements.

do you guys think i should just knock out the back window, or cut the whole back wall out.  once i get a new car this truck wont be a daily drive so i could care less about looks, only volume
