My dealer is recommending I get a Stinger battery and a relay for the setup. Do I really need it?

Replacing the battery under the hood with a stinger battery isnt a bad idea but a second battery is only nessasary if you are A) going to be running the stereo with the car off or B) if you are competing in a class the dictates that the car is driving in and out of the lanes but cannot be running while competing, if your car wont start after you run then you can very well drive it away. I think an upgraded altenator is what you should really be looking at.

No, I wouldn't say that you need it for that setup.

His recommendation wasn't to replace the car battery, it was adding a second, auxillery one. He was insisting I need it so I thought I'd ask around.

Alternator upgrade? How much do those babies go for?

Say no to the second battery issue. Ravenderat is bang on with his recommedations. All the second battery is going to do is put more of a strain on the tiny little alternator that you already have.

Thanks. As for why components in the rear, my golf came with components both in the front and rear and so I am just going to replace the cones inside with better ones for not tearing up the door's sake. I used to have a Civic and was fond of putting high quality coaxals in the back, but can't in this car.

I understand that he was suggesting that you add a second battery, what I  am suggesting is that you replace the stock battery with the stinger one and get a high output altenator. Check around on ebay and hit up google, you should be able to find something, as for price it all depends on the size you want, check around  alittle bit.
