i hear ppl talk about this alot but i dont know how to do it. a couple installers told me that it doesnt have to match as long as u have the ear to learn distortion. My amp is 200rmsx2 at 4 ohm and my 2 12s are hooked up to parallel 4 ohm and they are 400rms each. when I turn the "gain" a bit past half and run it for a while the protection light comes on until i turn it down and wait it out. What is up wit this? Can my speakers be sending the signal back which i doubt cuz its only half the rms?

Your amplifier can produce full rms ANYWHERE on the gain control.  It is not a volume control.  Read https://www.bcae1.com/ ... then read it again.

Then, after you read that, take your car to the installer that told you to match it and have them do it for you.  Don't take advice from the other installers again, in my opinion.
