I've been looking for a new amp for a while now and i can't find anything that looks quite so good.
I'm trying to find an amp that'll push 700x1 RMS at 2ohms (class D or a/b ... doesn't matter) or 350x2 RMS at 4ohms. I'm planning on getting another Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 to amtch mine and enter a couple small local amature SPL comps near me.
Thanks a lot with your help!

It might be easier to look into a 1000 watt amp, and that way you will have more head room. But that may out you in a higher class at comps?

i'm not sure how these comps are set up quite yet. Since it's amature they might be all in one class.
Plus ... I think people have pushed those kappa perfect pretty hard before.
BTW what's that normal rule ... can subs handle more, or less wattage in a ported box? I think someone told me this before ... but I can't remember

Usually less wattage. I put 500 RMS to my Kappa Perfect 12.1D in a sealed box. And I only have 1.

I own the Brutus BX1500D and it pushes my 2 12's to their limit its the best bang for the buck... I put it though a torture test on a 5 hour road trip and it made it through with flying colors But thats just my opinion.. just do your home work and enjoy Later Skold ------------- 2004 Honda Civic Ex 4Dr

If I were even thinking about competing I would drop a little more and get a true competition class amplifier. I'm thinking MMATTS, Zapco, Linear Power, etc.
Actually, Memphis seems to have some nice looking competition geared stuff too.
If you're going to play, why not play to win, right?

if you are going to compete in usaci the lowest power class is 0-300 watts at 4 ohms, then 301-900. so you may want to base your amp purchase around those guidelines so you dont get shoved in a class with people who have more power than you. good amps for o-300 dropping to 1 ohm mono would be kicker 1200.1, crossfire vr1000d for only 2 ohms mono try a us amps 600. good luck

forgot this: ported enclosures usually have an impedance spike around the tuning of the port,so at one frequency the sub will be able to take a ton o power and play loud, but above and mostly below the f3 point power handling drops off dramatically. i think 1/2 octave below the f3 the sub will act like it is 'free air' so power handling is low low low. -------------

I agree with you completely. But the question is ... What puts an amp into the "competition class."
I'm thinking it has something to do with trickery ... like it's rated 20RMS at 4ohms and pushes 100000000000000RMS at 1ohm (figuratively speaking)
Or does it have something to do with the internals of the amp?
Also ... i read something about Planet Audio and found a good deal on a Vortex VX900D ... are they any good?
O yea ... I found out that the event that I want to go to (S3 [stands for Speed, Style and Sound] in OH) does all of the classes by engine type for the races and you compete against them in all three comps (if if you don't want to race you can just enter sound like I am) ... so basically i'll be up against all N/A V6s. This being mainly for the "speed" part of it (but scores are totaled to find the winner of the three) i think i'll have a pretty good chance. Last year the guy who was overall got first in speed style and sound with his supercharged tiburon ... but i don't know what he had audio wise ... It could be anythign since it was RIPPmods.com's car =\
