I am attempting to swap a 1996 Ford OEM radio with power amp into my wife's 2000 Mercury. 2 quick questions:

1) Should I do this?

2) Will I need to splice the radio's 12V constant wire to power the amp? The 2000 Merc's current radio doesn't have the amp, so simply hooking up the speakers ended up with no sound, since the amp didnt draw any power (my guess).

First, why would you do this? Second, does it fit?

In any case, if the connectors don't match I suggest you purchase the "into car" adapter for the 2000 Mercury (what model?) and the "into radio" adapter for the 1996 Ford HU (what car did it come out of?) Then just match up the wires, splice, and you're done.

Yes, it fits. Just has the power amp along with everything else. Thnaks for the help, i'll find th parts tonight.

When it comes to OEM swapping it depends on what kind of car the radio came out of. If that radio came out of a 96 eddie bauer explorer or mustang with the MACH system, or even a crown vic, then you'll basically get the rado to light up and produce no sound when you put it in your 2000 Merc. Your best bet would be to either go after market with the proper wiring adaper, or get a radio from another ford. Being the ford owns mazda, the Ford Contour, Mecury Mystique, and Madza 626 are all the same car . You'd have a better chance going with a radio (I assume you are swapping in a CD player as the car came with a tape?) from one of those cars.
