Hey everyone, don't post here all too often but I lurk everyday just about.
I have a 2002 Harley Davidson Edition F150 and I installed the Kenwood in April of 04 after my Clarion VRX935VD (it was a factory refurb) cd mechanism failed 3 times.
It is not even a year to date of the installation and the LCD screen of this unit goes blank upon touching it. I do not loose power to anything and it does not adversely affect the operation of any of the other functions (CD, Sirius, FM/AM). I can get it to come back if remove the detatchable face or turn the truck off and back on. It eventually goes back out.
I took a fairly long trip yesterday and it started happening more then it ever has before, I would even hit a bump and the screen would go out.
I called Kenwood today and the guy told me to check the voltage, look at the screen to see if there was something stuck there like dirt or dust (I dont get that part), and hit the reset button to see if it will clear the problem. I did all this and it still does it.
I spent about a half hour in the truck tonight with the sole intention to try to best replicate the problem.
If I am touching the screen in any location it will go out without warning. It will not do it everytime, but it will do it 6/10 times. I also found that if you touch the very bottom of the plastic trim under the "Kenwood" logo, that it also makes the screen go out.
I am very annoyed because I had to send my prior radio out 3 times. Each time it came back with a different problem. All told, the unit was gone 3 months. With a completely custom install, I had to remove my center console and my front seats each time I had to uninstall.
I am not looking forward to having to rip this one out now too.
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Anything that could possibly cause adverse operating conditions?
I have a great body ground and I soldered all of the connections. Never had a problem untill now, not even engine noise.
Thanks in advance.
