So I just added an aux-input to my 96 taurus with JBL premium by cutting the signal wires from the tape deck in teh back of the harness in the dash and rewiring those four wires to two RCA jacks. The sound quality is incredible,
here are the instructions for what i did.
What i'd like to do is add a second pair of RCA jacks so i can connect my CD changer as well, and add a 3 way switch to switch between CD, iPod and Radio. The problem is I need to know exactly how the tape deck sends a signal to the rear control unit that makes it switch to tape mode. Currently to switch between line in and radio i have to put in and eject a tape.
Does putting a tape in merely complete a circuit between two wires in the dash harness and tell the RCU to switch to tape? Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this harness?
there is a radio/tape microswitch on the side of the cass mech... when the mech lower it closes this switch which switches VCC from the tuner to the cass mecha control section....

so the switch connects two wires, the wires then go to the rear control unit...which two wires does it connect so I can bypass the switch
i found a diagram, Do you think it is Audio Communications Protocol A and Audio Communications Protocol B? Because that was my guess
there are normally 3 wires on a conventional radio/tape microswitch... VCC (feed) voltage - Radio & Tape.....when the switch is opened it supplies voltage to the tuner/radio section... when closed it supplies voltage to the cassette section.... you may find it uses a small slider style switch instead of the conventional microswitch but the operational setup is the same... constant voltage switched between two sources....
