I just bought 2 4 ohm dual voice coil subs. Can i wire them to the kicker kx600.1 amp and get 600 watts times 1 at 2 ohms? thanks

No. Your amp is mono. You can present it with an 8 ohm, a 4 ohm or a 1 ohm load. You need DVC 8 ohm drivers, wire them all in parallel. This will present a two ohm load for your amp.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

ok well see i havent got the amp yet.I am still trying to decide on that. Could i power my subs buy the kicker kx800.4 amp? it says that it makes 400watts times 2 at 4 ohms when it is bridged, thanks.

No, a dual 4-ohm woofer can only be wired for 8-ohms or for 2-ohms each.  So on each channel of a stereo amp you can present either an 8-ohm or a 2-ohm load.  Two of them can only be wired for 16 ohms, 4-ohms, or 1-ohm total load.

I suggest you wire them for a total 4-ohm load (which is called series-parallel and is the BEST way in general to use two 4-ohm DVC woofers.)  You then want either a mono amp rated for the correct power into 4-ohms, or a stereo amp rated for the correct bridged power into 4-ohms.  Do not use a 4-channel amp for subs (you can do this, of course, but it is not the best solution, and in your case you would have to wire for an 8-ohm load on each bridged set.)

ok so would you recommend a kx600.1 which i would only get 300 watts out of it or get like a kx1200.1 and get 600 watts out of it? and why would ppl want to get 4ohm subs if it cant be wired at 2ohms meaning im going to have to get an amp twice the size to get the equal amount of watts. By the way i have 2 8 inch kicker L7 subs which have 900 watts rms together.

Damping is better, distortion is lower, heat is less, efficiency is better... all the good things about high impedance loads. There are MANY reasons to NOT run an amp at one ohm - just because you can.

Actually I do

Look for a Hifonics Brutus BX1500D its a 1500 watt 1 ohm stable mono amp that will pound the hell out of your subs
you can pick one up on ebay for about 200-230 bucks or get one from a dealer from about 289.00

You now have input.. I hope it helps

Later

Because people, correctly and intelligently, don't give a rip about the measly 3db max spl boost you gain by doubling the power.  And what Haemphyst said.

What amp should you get?  I'd buy the kx600.1 if those are my 2 choices.  If you are hellbent on matching rms (woo hoo, good job) then buy the kx1200.1.

ok ya thanks alot for the help, now with the 1500 watt brutus amp at 1 ohm do u think that is a little over doing it for subs equalling only 900 watts rms?

Naw..Just make sure you set your gains correctly and you'll have no problems, plus the amp gives you room to upgrade at a later time
If you really think its to much look at the BX1000D its a 1000 watt 1 ohm amp, you can get for about 25-35 bucks cheaper than the BX1500D
also Hifonics just released a BX1205D and yep you guessed it its a 1205 watt 1 ohm amp

Good luck

ok thanks for the input. i think im gonna get the jbl 600.1 should i wire it at 1 ohm and get 600 watts or wire it at 4 ohms and get 300? and oh ya i am a little bit worried about it overheating.

I have my 600.1 running at 1-ohm. I have never had a problem with it overheating, but then again it is the middle of winter.

No brainer. Run it at 4-ohms.

ok ya im gonna run it at 4ohms for sure but now do u guys think i would be underpowering it to much if i were to get the kicker kx400.1 ? running it at 4ohms gettin 100 rms to each sub instead of 150 rms if i was to get the 600 watt amp. Is the 50 rms each sub worth the 100 extra bucks? thanks.

As long as you set your input gain properly and don't drive it into clipping it will be fine.  There is no such thng as "underpowering."  That is a salesman's myth.  There is no appreciable difference between 100 watts and 150 watts except headroom.

alrite great thanks alot man. and now couldnt i turn everything up on the amp like the bass boost and the gain without worrying about blowing the subs.

Search for some of the HUNDREDS of threads regarding setting your gain correctly. You obviously need to read up a bit before you go buying or installing an amplifier.

NO you cannot just go cranking everything (and dont say "I never said that" cause ya did) and expect your driver to live.

Yikes.  Like haemphyst said, NO.  Like I said, SET your gain properly.  But hey, if you like buying speakers go for it it's your money.
