I will be installing a Clarion or a JVC unit in an 1964 dodge dart and need a little information. I assume I can leave the ANT wire alone since there is obviously no power antena but what about the ILL wire? Can I leave it alone or does it have to be hooked up, and what differance does it make? I will be installing in the glove box to leave the original AM radio in place, will a ground strap from the unit to the frame be adequate?

Also, the Clarion unit has a wire labled PH_INT, what is it for?

Thanks for any help.

I believe that the wire labled PH_INT is for the power antenna, which is a signal wire and is also used in other applications. When I connected my head unit, I did not connect the ILL wire and it was fine. Best of luck to you on installing it.

PH_INT is probably the Phone Interuppt wire ( read - phone mute to those in the know ) ILL powers up your panel lamps, hook it to a dedicated ILL lead in the vehicle or you can loop it with the power ant lead to turn them on when you power the unit up.....

In that car you don't need the ILL. wire connected. I actually did a 1964 dart convertible about two and a half months ago. We put an eclipse head unit in the glove box. I made the new panel screw in using the same screw holes as that the glove box liner used.
