I need some help with Amp selection. I want to use an Alpine 5 channel amp to power four door speakers plus a single 10" sub. This amp has a dedicated sub channel. This single amp can power my whole system and save me tons of room. However, several people have told me that I would be more pleased with a dedicated amp for the sub and another 4-channel amp for my door speakers.

What is the opinion / experience of this group? Will a dedicated amp set up be better? FYI - this not for competition or show. It is just to improve over my factory unit.

Thanks,

Mike

As long as the 5-channel has the available power you require, there is no difference running one.  In fact, one of the sweetest setups I have ever heard used only a Memphis Belle amplifier.

I would probably look at separate amps only for the reason of choice and availability at competitive prices.  But if you've already selected an amp that will do the job, you can be reasonably assured that a 5-channel amp will be of good quality, as I don't know of any of the crap brands who make one.

I'm looking at Alpine amps mainly. I hope they aren't one of those "crap" brands. posted_image There specs look good and their prices are reasonable.
