dash kits...wiring kits....
im looking to replace the factory head unit and ad xm radio to it.....

You will need the antenna adapter (40-GM10), the wiring harness (something like a GMRC-02 will retain the chime - or just the basic 70-2003 if you want to be cheap), and the kit itself a 99-2003 or 99-2001 should be fine.
Now the important part. When taking off the radio trim bezel, which is basically the entire dash piece, DROP THE STEERING COLUMN!!! Don't think you can squeeze it out, or you can work around it, let me repeat: DROP THE STEERING COLUMN!!! That little bridge that goes over the steering column snaps way too easy. ( I don't know from experience I swear! Actually I know of at least 5 different installers who have broken that same piece. You've been warned! ) Take the extra 5 minutes and drop the column down onto the seat there's only 4 nuts to remove..
Also here's the dash disassembly:
1. Remove (2) 10mm from the drivers underdash panel and carefully remove that panel the rest of it is held on with push clips. Watch the top left corner it's a real bastard to get out.
2. Remove (2) 10mm from the passenger side underdash panel and carefully remove that panel the rest of it is held on with push clips.
3. Remove (2) 10mm nuts from inside the large lower pocket of the trim piece.
4. Remove the foam/metal bracket covering the steering column from the drivers underdash.
5. DROP THE STEERING COLUMN!
6. Double check that you've dropped the steering column.
7. Carefully start to pull the trim piece off it is held on with push clips. Once it's far enough away unplug any harnesses and remove it. You'll have to put the car in gear and these vans usually don't have a tilt wheel. Note the cig lighter harnesses may have hardly any slack to them and may make the panel seem like it is still held on by something.

you can also remove the torx bolt that holds on the shift lever for more clearance, slide the rubber boot down : )

You can do that, but the column itself is still in the way. I'd still recommend dropping the column to be safe. Technically, you don't have to drop the column or mess with the shift lever. Just take the vehicle out of gear. I've gotten the panel on and off without removing either, but it's risky at best and just not worth it to be honest.
