I have a 2001 Concorde. It is a bear to get my amp installed due to the battery location (under the airbox in front on the passenger side) and the firewall being under the cowl (Trouble with drilling into the firewall).

I can run the wire through the drivers side with a factory grommet but I don't have enough cable to send it to the trunk. I am curious if I can wire directly to the alternator posts? The alt is on the drivers side which will save me enough cable to reach the trunk and them some.

I think this is possible because the alternator and the battery are run in parallel. My concern is I could somehow damage the alternator. I am also concerned that the amp will only power up when the engine is running.

What do all of you think?

You will run into troubles eventually. The alternator will have to work harder to supply direct current to the amplifier without having a battery inline of the power supply. If you need more length in your power wire, you have use a distribution block and add a couple more feet and this will also allow for future expansion to more amplifiers.

Find where your battery ties into the fuse box under the hood...There should be a bolt that you can attach to and it will be the same as attaching directly to the battery....Just make sure that it is the connection comming straight from the battery (Follow the wire) and you shouldnt have any problems...
