My G/F's dad wants a little more low end in his 2004 Ford Ranger. There is very little to almost no space, and he really doesn't want much. He also doesn't wanna spend much (less than $200). This is what I found. Any other suggestions?

Kicker Comp 8"
Kicker KX 100.2

I don't know if it will fit but the 10 inch comp is less than the 8. https://www.cardomain.com/item/KIC03C104 That amp would work nicely with either sub.

Why not consider a powered bass tube?  If all he wants is a "little" more low end, he should consider that route, especially since they fit into nice spaces, and already have the amp onboard (Less of a mess, and easier to remove if needed).

Audiobahn ATB8AT  (yeah I know, but it'll get the job done)  $220 - 8inch powered & ported 100 Watts RMS
Bazooka BTA8100  -  $200, ported and powered 8inch  100 watts MAX power

Kenwood KSC-WA62RC -  $189 6in cone, 6 in passive radiator   60 watts RMS

Bazooka BTA6100 -  $169, 6 in cone, 100 watts MAX, ported

If the kicker sub dosn't fit well then maybe you could fiberglass a box for it. posted_image Bass tubes are overpriced for what you get but they do fit in some tight spaces.

Hey Nick, how ya doing? We've just started selling the new JL W1V2 subs. they're in your price range, they sound great and the best thing for your Ranger they,re much SHALLOWER then any other name brand subs I've dealt with. Checkum' out. TCSS

Hmmm...I might have to check those out. I'll take him to our local shop to listen to them. I never buy anything there because they charge to much and the manager is a know it all p***k. Anyway, I probley will have to break out the glass to make use of all the availible space. I've never seen a bass tube that would fit back there. It's pretty tight and he still wants a little floor space to put things. Acctually now that I think about it he really wants alot of things.

if he just wants a little low end, try the Jl 8w1v2 its got plenty of what many people would want when trying to add a little to the sq of an audio system, and the amp would work fine

W1V2 JLs only come in 10", 12" and 13.5". Maybe you meant W3V2? They come in an 8".

Hmmm, I gotta say, I'll be AMAZED if you can fit a standard sub in that vehicle. Especially if it has the newer shortened body style we just recently got at work. This might be a little out there, but why not consider speaker upgrade with a good amp? I know, it won't handle as well as the sub, but for the vehicle, the limited space is ridiculous... The situation I have seen was a guy in a S10(similar sizing) that he was basically snug on the steering wheel... Just an idea...

JL 10" W1V2 is only 4 1/3" deep. Should be no problem getting it into this truck, especially if you fiberglass.

Well, here's another thing to look into.  MTX makes a thunderform enclosure for 2 door rangers.  Loaded they're $500 and $200 for just the box.

I know this is out of your price range, but perhaps you can take a look at their design for ideas when building your box.  I'm sure you can even just use MDF,  assuming you're capable of making a few clever cuts...

I know I can get a sub back there. I'll make the back of the box conform to the truck wall, then possibly make the front conform to the back of the seat. Leave a small gap between the seat and sub and blamo.

I have an '02 Ranger.  Is his a regular cab, or extended?  I have the 4 door, my roommate has a 2000 reg.cab and he has a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 10 DVC behind his seat.  Let me know what you have to deal with and I'll measure the two boxes for you...
