65 Mustang Stereo Install

Ok, the install is on a 65 mustang without any previous stereo. My question is for the power for the head unit... From what I have read I was planning on connecting the continuous power by splicing into the cigarette lighter power. And for the switch using the ignition wire???... this is actually the wire coming from the back of the ignition?

And is this the best way to wire this or does anyone have other suggestions?

The previous installer put wires behind fuses and plugged the fuses in over the wires... didn't seem like the best route.

If the intent is to keep the vehicle as stock as possible, there are little devices called fuse taps. The fuse is inserted into them and then they both insert into the fuse block. the other end of the tap has a male connection on it for another power wire lead. If the vehicle has no intention of being kept stock, both wires canbe found in the main wiring coming fromthe ignition switch or at the fuse block. I am not a big fan of drawing power from a cig. lighter circuit. I like to take my lines direct from the main ignition harness.

we usually use t-taps for tapping power. they crimp over the wire and accept a male spade connector, but you will need to fuse them just to be safe. i agree with not using lighter wire. if a pro installer wrapped the wire around a fuse then i would ask for my money back, thats not pro.

If you look for the fuse block you will find extra male spade connectors on there that are (+) . Use your DMM and you will find one there.
