I am gonna be doing some work for a guy in a 63 Impala. He wants me to put screens and his 6.5" components into the A-Pillar. This car won't be driven, so the obvious vision obscurment won't be a problem. I know I can make it look good, and it seems like as far as aiming them this would be a good place to put 'em. Does anyone see any down side to putting the components in the A-Pillars? ------------- Nik

are you going to mount the mid bass in the A pillar too? It sounds like you are jsut putting the tweeter there which may cause imaging problems. -------------

One 6.5 and one tweeter under a 7" monitor. I know it sounds strange but I'm sure I can make it look good. ------------- Nik

Other then how it will sound, No. Aiming is easy but one speaker will be 2 feet from your head and the other one will be 4-5 feet from your head. Has it been done, sure.

But how would that be any different than if they were in the doors? They would be almost the same distance from your head. ------------- Nik

The A-pillar places the left speakers far closer to your ear than any door mounting could. Use 4-ohm speakers and add a 2- ohms resister in series and a 4-ohms resister in parallel (a 6db attenutation circuit) to the left side crossover network - especially for the tweeter - to knock it down if you want the sound to be closer to correct at the driver's position. ------------- Support the12volt.com

You need to go to this site and ask Dave for his input. I am MR2NR on that forum. https://www.canadiancaraudio.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=010212;p=1 ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

DYohn, you're describing an L-pad, right? Does it go just prior to the speaker or does it go before the crossover network?

Yea, it can be an L-pad, which is usually variable and can be a better solution if you don't know how much attenuation you need. What I described is simple a fixed value resistive pad. They can be used anywhere in the speaker-level signal chain. ------------- Support the12volt.com

Thanks DYohn. I'll give that a shot. This isn't exactly a SQ car. The guy just wants it for show, but I don't wanna put my name on anything thats gonna sound like arse. This car is huge and at the lowest level that I can put the speakers they will be close to 3 feet from your head. ------------- Nik
