I'm off to build another box for my overpriced/underperforming 13W6.
I'm wondering about that phrase I see inside every subwoofer owner's guide I've read that always says
"Use 3/4" MDF or a material of equal rigidity.."
What about 1/2" MDF and sayy.. two generous coats of Fiberglass? I've built boxes that way before and they are much lighter and seem just as solid... (by virtue of being lighter, they prolly aren't) BTW, I always build the face of the box.. the side I mount my woofer to, out of 3/4".. even if I use 1/2 for the rest of it...
I guess the most pointed question I can ask is if I would be losing SPL using 1/2 and fiberglass...?
Anyone have any thoughts about fiberglassing the inside of boxes anyway?

Naww, that stuff is a pain to work with, its really heavy, and this part might sound weird, but I'm working with some REALLLY tight clearences and 1/2 just makes everything a little easier.

As long as you have a couple of good layers of glass and it is adhered to the mdf properly, you should be fine. I regularily use 1/2" with glass to reinforce it in tight locations as well, nothing wrong with that at all.
