i recently installed a second RE se 12" in my truck and now my amp is overheating. My amp is a kenwood kac-x811d. the subs are dvc 4ohms and i have them wired up in paralled for 1ohm of impedence. im using my factory charging system and 4g wire for power and ground. everything on the amp is turned down bout halfway so i could use it for one sub. The amp has a temperature readout and after about 5mins of use at a pretty loud volume it goes up to about 210 degrees Faren. Its mounted under my seat but has about 7 " of headroom, and it's at an angle so air can flow underneath. Any thoughts? by the way that amp is driaining the crap out of my battery. it was using 60 amps once and dropped my battery's voltage to about 9 volts!

If your amp can handle a 1-ohm load (I didn't look it up) then perhaps your gain is too high.  How'd you set it?  Also, as system voltage drops, current draw increases.  Current makes heat, so an amp will get hotter as system voltage drops.  You need a high-output alternator to keep your voltage up.

First off check your ground on the amp....Make sure you scrape the paint off so its grounded to bare metal....Uprgrade your ground on the battery use at least 4Ga wire and make a connection from the batt to the frame....

Just for fun get a Multimeter and check the Impedances on the individual subs....I have seen cases where a sub will change impedance....Doesnt happen often but it happens...

If all is well after the upgraded grounds play it and see if it still heats up and drain the batt quickly....

If it still drains the batt quickly and you want to resolve it you may want to look into either a better alternator, a better Batt (Optima Yellow) Or a second batt(Probally not needed unless you are going to add more to your current setup)

This is all I can think of right now cuz I am tired..Hope this helps...
