I visit a forum for HT and we're having a debate about car audio/home audio. The debate is starting to get very technical and I honestly don't understand a word of it. The car audio side needs some people who know what their talking about to make some points. Thanks for the help.

Car audio can never, ever compete with high-end home audio. Simply more real-estate for higher-end electronics and speaker components and better acoustics to start with than the interior of any vehicle can provide. That discussion is interesting but too long and far-flung to jump into now IMO.

Yeah, I agree with DYohn on this one.

People are willing to spend ALOT more money on home stereo equipment. It's pretty simple, unless you drive two hours everyday to and from work, you spend alot more time in your house. So you'd be more likely to spend alittle bit more money on your home stereo.

I've seen some old home tube amps sell for $70k posted_image

IIRC, the highest car audio prduct I've seen was a $12k amp.

Paul, you've got a losing battle there. You might as well exit with grace and dignity. I only read the first and last pages of that discussion but that's all I needed to see. A member named Shokhead wrote

That about sums that discussion up. Be content with achieving your goals in car audio and when the time comes you will do the same with home audio.

Yea, I know it's a loosing battle. But hey, I gotta defend my one true love, car audio. I was never really arguing that car audio was better in any way, just that even though the tech. is less advanced propper image can be attained for the driver.

makes me feel really bad. I have a car stereo I've put 2 loving years into and absolutely no HT setup whatsoever. A JVC 21" TV set and a VCR. =)

I dunno, I guess I just never listen to music anywhere but the car and the gym... so as much as I like nice sound I just wouldn't spend it on home audio equipment...

Anyone else like that?

Is that all? And I bet that was a couple hundred watts, too...

Have you ever looked at the Audio Note stuff? How about the Gaku-On? A 6 watt monoblock, pure class A, single ended triode, with hand wound "5 nines" silver wire transformers? I know, stupidity comes at a price... how about $125,000 per SIDE!?! A quarter mil, for 12 watts... not for me, thanks!

But back on topic, HT is more prone to Vodoo and Snake Oil than CA (well not more prone, theres just more of it out there). Not sure what point I'm trying to make with this, but I'll just go with it.
