05 Honda Pilot lx subs, speakers

I have a 05 Honda Pilot , and am changing out the stock speakers for coax 6 1/2" for the front doors, and puting in a 10 "sub in the spot provided in the cargo area powered by a dual xaf460 amp, how much depth do i have for this(I think it takes 4" deep wub but not sure), and which speakers/sub do you recomend?Thanks, Phil

What spot is provided for a sub? In the EX there is a sub on the drivers side in the rear cargo area but I don't think there is in the LX... If there is then it would not be easy to just install one in there. The factory sub in the EX just runs in free-air.

I reccomend just buying a sub that is good but inexpenspive and placing it in a small sealed enclosure. An Infinity Refernce 10" sub: https://www.cardomain.com/item/INFREF1030W

I wouldn't buy anything from Dual eitehr. MTX, Alpine, and RF are a few of the brands that make good amps.

As for what speakers to buy...you should go out and listen to different sets of speakers and pick the ones you think sound the best (and don't break the bank).

There is the same spot for the sub in the lx as there is in the ex, it has a cover over the hole but is removable, I figured I would give it a try, the cargo area is used for everything, including a contracting business, so i would like to not add any external boxes. what do you think?thanks, Phil

Have you checked out www.honda-pilot.org? I've seen an install where someone mounted an Infinity sub in the factory sub location, running free-air. If you do this, definitely use some dynamat, or similar sound dampening material, on the rear panel to seal up some of the holes and keep the rattling to a minimum. Here are some examples:

The Infinity 1030W 10" sub and the Kicker Comp 10" sub both work well in a free-air (IB) setup. The kicker would probobly be better for you since it's RMS power rating is only 125 watts and it isn't as deep as the Infinity sub is (you'd still ned to make at least a 1" space ring for it though). By the way, what is your Dual amp's RMS power rating?
