Alpine all the way. Stay away from Sony.

without even being that familiar with either one of those models, I would say through brand reputation the Alpines are a safer bet.

Sony tends to grossly overrate their products ratings. And Sonys track record in the car stereo business has not been so great either

Ok I'm looking at getting the type-e's for $60 a piece or I can pick up the S's for $99... these are from circuit city and they seem to have the best pricing on alpine around here... let me know how you guys feel.

Go with the ALpine subs for sure. That sounds like a pretty good price on those Type Es...you can get two for $89 on crutchfield.com though. I wonder where Alpine guy is... You might try PMing him.

I've installed a bunch of Type e's. Sealed box, around 300 - 500 watt. The sound is very very good for that price range sub. Reminds me of the old kicker comps. Able to hold the deep deep bass without the noise.

oh and where do I click to piss on Sony?

Id highly suggest buying online and considering a single Alpine Type R are..beit 10", 12" or 15". VERY GOOD subs that can be had online for around 150 bucks.

The type-e sub is pretty darn good for the price, i personally ran one 10" and one 12" and 3 12" all at separate times, they are pretty good in the SQ department, they suffer in the low end that say a type-r would put out, ,but the type-e has that real tight accurate punch.  I can't seem to blow one of those dang things, had the 10" plugged into the wall for 5 minutes before it got boreing.....

ok it's down to alpines, I've heard both the e's and the s's and the s's actually really impressed me for the money. I still dont know really how i feel, the S's are DVC and they still have the same power rating as the e's... kinda interesting.

I have 3 12" Alpine Type R's running from a Phoenix Gold 8.0.1 in parallel and they hit really hard. I had the Type E first , they were OK but  the Type R's are much better.
