hey

I have a 97 pathfinder ,  the lower SE model that has a small "aftermarket sized"   factory stereo.    Does anyone know if this vehicle has the separate factory amp  that needs to be bypassed when installing an aftermarket deck, amp and subs?

I can wire stuff up when its straightforward,  but unsure about bypassing this factory amp if there is one.  I have heard its 50/50  whether one is there.

I have the wiring harness for Nissan and hopefully can plug and play.

any ideas,   and is it easy to figure out if there is the amp?

thanks

CB

Yup, theres an amp, , you will get a better quality of sound if you bypass the amp.

Hey AG,  thats wicked,  thanks for the reply.

I am not a pro,  so can confirm some things with you?

I will plug in and splice the harness I have to the alpine but then,

do I cut and splice the wires going into the amp to the corresponding wires coming out of the amp?    eg.,  FL going in to the FL coming out, etc?

thanks again

Don't cut the plugs off at the amp, , just un plug them from the amp, and then tap into the wires.  And yes, you will tap FL In to FL out, , i reccomend putting bullet connectors onto the wires your useing for the bypass, so in the future you can just unplug the bullet connectors and plug the amp back in. Do 1 speaker at a time to be shure you got it right each time.   If your haveing troubles i can snap some pictures of what i did to my harness.

i see,  no prob.      Tapping into the wires,  is that taking one of those plastic clips that pierce the insulation and touch the wire,  and your new wire is in that clip as well?
Bullet connectors, is that a male end you crimp onto a wire and it plugs into a female crimped connector on the other wire?

no picture required unless you are feeling like it!    I just want to make one trip to Cambodian Tire.     THanks chief

Don't use any thingy things to tap into the wire, they end up cutting the wire.  Take a knife and cut back the insulation on the wire, about 1 cm is good, wrap your wire around it, solder, then tape.   And ya, the bullet connectors are just as you described.

thats tite man,  thanks for the ideas.

funny thing,  I pulled some details off an install doctor site about my nissan,  and it says nothing about the amp.  Just simple info on plugging the harness into your new deck.   Those bastards!

keep in touch with yourself

second question,   i got the adapter for the diversity antenna.   Is that straightforward for plugging into the alpine deck?

Yup, just plug the 2 prong end into the factory side, and the universal plug into the alpine, very simple and dummie proof

something more.....

just curious how this works,  there are the 4 standard speaks,  but then the two tweets in the front windscreen frame posts.  How do those work in the scheme?   are they unplugged or ....?

they are on the same wire as the front woofers, they split off in the front.  The tweeters have a capacitor built on to them so they only recieve the high frequencies.

Is the factory radio plug still intact?  Is so please just buy a wire harness adaptor for up front.  If its too late i'll try to find that info for you.

ya,  I have the harness adapter.  The power wire from the harness  was smaller than the HU power line,  plus it was blowing fuses,   so i ran power straight from the battery to the HU.   Ignition sense from the deck I connected to the harness power now.

New problem:   everything working/sounding fine,  then  small puff of smoke from back of HU comes out and it shuts off.     sh*t, I say.     I hit power and it turns back on but now Right speakers dont work,  only left.     Something inside is pooched I guess.....

eek, yeah dosn't sound good to me.  Do you have access to a digital multi meter?  Test all the speaker wires for the resistance, ,and also test to see if possibly you accidentally grabbed a wrong wire and it was a power wire of something.
