I have a 98 Ford Taurus with that oval unit with radio/tape controls and the fan/heater/temp controls on one faceplate. I found out the actual radio unit is in the trunk. I compared the wiring on that to what's posted here in the vehicle info db, and I don't have a GREEN/ YELLOW for constant 12v, or yellow/black for switched. I want to hook up an RF CD changer. I was hoping to tap power off of the trunk unit rather than fishing wire back up through the car.... I also found out Ford's require an antenna adapter too. Any info on that? (wiring diags) Thanks Darryl

I don't have a GREEN/ YELLOW for constant 12v, or yellow/black for switched. They're along the side panel just to the left of the trunk amp/tuner, near the ground spot and antenna wire. Not connected directly to the tuner.

I am still not finding these GREEN/ YELLOW or yellow black.... I have to hook in a remote wire for my amp ------------- DTOWN

As I recall, the constant is yellow/red and the switched is GREEN/ black...I'm pretty sure about the constant color anyway. Anyway they're the only two wires that run vertical next to the grounding location on that side panel. The constant is fatter wire. Use a meter and test them. What did you do, change your sign-in name or are you someone different? If your car is missing these wires in that location you will be able to find a constant 12V in the trunk area somewhere because you've got tail lights back there. You can run a switched lead to a panel under the dash slightly to the left of the steering wheel column. There's constant and switched in a small 4-wire panel where the wires terminate at a connection assembly. I just looked to and the couldn't find the colors either. I opened the bunch of cables running along the left. There is a RED / yellow that's thicker than the rest. I'm guessing that's constant. I'll get a meter on them next. - No I didn't change my name - though it did make me think for a min - funny thing, I guess I'm not the only one havin' fun with Fords. I'll let you know what I find. .. Still lookin' Thicker RED / yellow is constant hot. Put a meter to each connection coming out of radio and nothing lit for switched ....? Gonna try another set of wires next time. I did see on another site (am I allowed to mention it? .. leave a link?) a statement that Ford does not consitently use the same wiring colors. .. and in the meantime I've misplaced the changer instructions ...Duh .. ;-) (thank you online pdfs) Still huntin' Darryl

Are you using the ignition key to on and off to find the switched 12 volt? You'll find one in either of the locations I told you about, but you have to switch on and off with the key. And that is a fact about OEM wire colors..it depends on where you see the wire, as the color combination can change along the path.....that's why we use meters and harnesses.

Found Power! Even the wiring harness was different from what was posted at InstallDr.... So I found a grey connector with three leads - the RED / Yellow that I already knew was the constant 12v - and a blue..? and the black / magenta(purple?) turned out to be a switched line. Nothing quite like it going to the radio ... ? ... Oh well ... got it all hooked up and sounds great! ... haven't taken it for a test drive yet though. And as a side note: I needed AntennaWorks 40-FD10 and 40-FD20 for the antenna... for those cyber-searchers in the same predicament... Thanks for the help! D
