Could a bad ground be the cause of no power to my amp?

U will need to check a few things.

1st I would check the remote wire.

2nd Do an Ohm test on the ground cable. You should have less than 1ohm resistance.

3rd check and fuses in the amp or power cable.

4th Do a voltage check on the power cable.

  If all is good there, then U most likely have a problem with the amp itself.
