I have a 2003 Trailblazer and a Bazooka CS8A5 (amplified subwoofer + 4-channel amplifier). Nothing impressive, but it should reinforce the low end and clean up the signal to my speakers. Plus I only paid $100 for the reburbished sub/amp online. My problem is installing the Bazooka unit. I am not a car install pro, but I have done work (speaker + headunit installation) on a couple of older cars (circa 1990 vintage -- when dash openings were square and things were simpler to disassemble!). So I might not have the right tools or whatever is necessary to get this done.
I tried to hook the Bazooka up today, but I couldn't figure out to reach the back of the factory headunit. I took out probably 15 screws in the dash (driver's side) and center console, along with a couple of panels under the steering wheel, and I still couldn't see any way to remove the part of the dashboard that has the stereo in it. I am kind of puzzled as to how I am supposed to do this. If I have to remove the entire dash, then I'm just going to leave this to a professional. So I would love to know how to get this thing done. I have managed to put everything back together correctly, so I'm at least not totally incompetent.
Also, I would appreciate any wiring info you could provide me, with respect to which speaker colors match up. I would also be interested in bypassing the headunit/dashboard completely and installing the Bazooka just on the rear speakers, if that would be significantly easier. I am already planning on running the power to the fuse junction/computer under the back seat, as the power cable there is of a pretty thick gauge. So if the L/R rear speaker wires also run to that same junction, that would obviously be a great place to hook it up, and I could leave the front speakers powered by the factory headunit.
Any hints/help are greatly appreciated! Even if it's just "Get a pro to do it, you idiot!"

Not going to be that harsh, but I really do think you need to take it to your local shop.
1.) You DO NOT want to "tap" power for your amplifier in that rear junction.
2.) That vehicle is probably still under warranty,therefore if you do the work, it will void it. Let a professional shop do the work where if something goes wrong, they are liable.
3.) Sounds you have a little basic experience, but this install will exceed that.
