I've been asked to install a sound system in a Viper. Honestly I've dealt with some expensive cars for high end clients but this is my first time in a Viper. I was surprised to see the regular Dodge 6 disk indash in that thing. Is there any surprises I'll find? Recommendations... Equipment I should use?

I'll try to remember to ask my co-workers.  I know my shop's done several Vipers over the years.

A whole new sound system. Probably going to use MBquart Q series for the front. Thats the only part that I'm kind of sure about. As for the head unit replacement. It sucks with that dodge radio because of the shape. I'd rather want to do something custom but that shape holds me back. I don't want to just put a dash kit in a Viper ya know. But I'm thinking Alpine because he wants to use Ipod control. Might even keep stock head unit and use module... but sound would suck. I don't know how I should do the bass if I should use a 4 channel and use the rear channels for a sub or should I get 2 two channels... I appreaciate your help guys!

Not to take you away from a great site like this, but you might want to price out a new center radio bezel and modify it by adding the kit to the bezel, bonding the baby and retexture paint it. Have a good look at Tim's site www.hzemall.com and in particular the Mazda3 dash build up that was done before a kit was available. Not excessively hard work to do and it is an easy sell to the customer who wants the custom look and the capability of putting the car back to stock (thus buying the second bezel).

If the customer is after monster output then a two amp system is in the works, if he is after good sound a large 4 channel amp and a pair of single 8 ohm or dvc 4 ohm speakers would do wonders. I like the Eclipse PA5422 and Audison amps for a task like this. The sub choice will depend on what the customer is after and will also help to choose the amp(s).

Okay, I talked to a coworker briefly today, and here's what I found out:

You can ISO mount the deck.  The amplifier should be in the rear on the left side, otherwise it's under a seat.  Sometimes it's easier in these cars to run new wire direct to the speakers rather than at the stock amp.  If you need to run RCA's to the back, you'll have to go inside the rear fender liner, because there's no room behind the seats.
