Hey guys, I drive a 98 Mbenz c280, and am looking around for a head unit.

I wanted something that matched the colors (amber) of the interior lighting, and that had excelent sound quality. Also, something simple and elegant and without all this teenage-animation crap on the Pioneers etc.

So I came across the Nak CD400. I have never used Nakamichi equipment before, and was wondering if anyone here has used this head unit and has any opinions.

And I have a few questions:
1: Does it have more than one 4v pre-out?
2: You can turn the internal amp off to send low-output signal through the speaker wires right?
3: Does Nak honor any warranties anymore?

Thanks alot in advance guys!
-E

EDIT: and this HU was right in my price range. I realize the CD700II is an awesome HU, but the CD400 (found it new for 288 shipped) is right at how much I want to spend.

The Nakamichi cd-400 is a great HU.

1: If I recall correctly, it has 3 preamp outs. And it has a subwoofer preamp out. SO it actually has 4 preouts!

2: Correct.

3: That depends on where you buy it from. If it's an authorized dealer, then yes they'll honor the warranty.

HEre is another HU I recommend you take a look at. It's pretty good.

The Nakamichi CD400 is a great HU, one of the best in terms of SQ. If you want more information on this unit, go to the Nakamichi website. The CD700II has always been one of my favorites, but I currently use a CD500.

And as Poormanq45 has stated, if purchased by an authorized dealer, Nakamichi always stands behind their products.

Just a warning. $288 shipped is probably _not_ from an authorized dealer.

Find something local as mentioned above, but my 2 cents on the CD400 is  that it is a fantastic head unit. I use the old school 45z and that sucker is as clean as a whistle, you can't get them anymore though :(    But hey, you'll enjoy it. Nak does have a good warranty policy, but it is a little slow (2 months +-) but the product comes back in mint. Nothing has ever went wrong with my Nak products. Enjoy.

Anyone have any bad experiences with the CD400?

Talked to the local guy, said they stopped selling Nak cuz they had so many returns.

I don't wanna buy a deck off the internet to just have to return it later and wait months at a time. (no one locally sells Nak.)

Can anyone recommend a HU that has near-Nak sound quality with a little better reliability reputation? (trying to stay in the 300 dollar range).

If there's really nothing comparable to the Nak's SQ, then I will still probably get it. But I kinda want something with a good track record (eclipse, alpine etc). Thanks guys.

EDIT: Also, is there any other deck out there with an option to turn the internal amp off? I plan to use the stock bose amp in my car, and want to send a low-level signal to it.

thats no good. Get a different amp for your system. Stick with the Nak HU, you won't be sorry.

Well yea, i'm going to change it eventually, but currently I'm only swapping out the HU, and want the best possible sound quality with the stock amp.
