So what can Brown do for you? They just brought me a whole crapload of new Nak gear. Was due to arrive on Monday but the CDN distributor got it out the door a day early. Nice new cd players and amps. The basic concept of the cd's is the same but preout voltage has been upped and the outputs are now no-clipping. The new 500w 1 ohm class D amp is way cool. Very similar in size to the Concept HP65.4 except it is a nice gun metal with polished highlights. Must go unpack the balance of the order to see what other treasures I can uncover.

Good to see them back in business and going hardcore. I guess that their company buyout has paid off big time for them. Western Canada are the first dealers to get the product due to the North American importer being in Vancouver, a whole whopping 2 hours away from me. Eastern Canada dealers will expect their product in about 5 business days.

Thanks for the update, Rob.  I hope Grande decides to allow US distribution for Nakamichi, but I hear the line will be branded Akai here below the border.

Is it true that some of the new heads have true 24-bit LCD screens that can be interfaced with iPods for video upload?

US distribution will follow at the end of this month once all the importing issues are resolved later this week, (at least that's what Jeff told me).The new heads are infact exactly what you mentioned and they are saaaaweeeeeeet. They look very nce in the display right next to our Eclipse heads.

Yea, they apparently lisenced that technology from Audiovox.  Should be interesting, and quite a departure from the old-style Nak HU design.

I hope they don't start making their HUs into eye candy like all the other manufactures have done. I personally like the no flash amber/green look of the Nak HUs.

I guess now the only none flash HU is going to come from Mcintosh.

Hmm, the screen isn't to gawdy, but I really don't like the RED back lighting.

Are they still going to offer their "plain jane" HUs, I hope?

Hello,

Wow, One or two of you people seem to have some real insight and appreciation for these great Nakamichi audio decks. In the States, they are not known for their car stereo equipment. That photo you posted was cool and I agree that Nakamichi's should stick with their clear display. We have a Nakamichi CD-250 Mobile Receiver CD Player, which has followed us now into three vehicles. We would have made it to four but the OEM connection plug & harness were damaged when we hastily grabbed it from our last car - just moments before the dealer took it in on trade!
I love this deck but can’t find the parts or even a wiring diagram to get it installed. The US support people were useless and possibly now, no longer in business. What's the scoop? Can we get these items in Canada? Nakamichi’s website no longer even lists a sales office or service center anywhere in the U.S., That is, anywhere south of the Canadian border? Please advise.

All the best,
Dmark83

I am not in jail lol, but i am very pleased about the new nak gear. I've heard their new stuff. I am most impressed with their CD300 and CD500 with their new capabilities. I am not so fond of the semi-sort of flashy look, but still they look stock when they are turned off which is nice. Not like a pioneer which screems STEAL ME WITH MY CRAZY CHROME DISPLAY (can anyone say audiobahn) with my LCD crazy TEENAGER ALL I WANT IS BASS BASS BASS OUTPUT YEAH LOUD LOUD LOUD.... Ahem, kind of got side tracked. God bless Nakamichi and everyone buy their gear if you want high quality SQ stuff! One question, what happened to the SPW1200D ? Nak subwoofers for the new year are what? I see pictures but no info...

DYohn, the new decks also have the same two trim bezels that the BOSS Audio decks have, one comes in black and the other comes in silver. Now that I think about it, the actual casings of the decks are the same. I have a BOSS cd player here to compare against it.

Nope, here's a perfect sentence where they fit.

Nakamichi and Boss are made in the same country, by the same people, very cheaply then passed along to the to the consumer for sale for a few hundred percent increase.

I thought my bad Photoshop work on the supposed new head unit would have been the tip off...  Here's the truth.  This entire thread was an April Fools joke Rob and I cooked up.

Here's the unvarnished truth about Nakamichi:  Nakamichi has not released any new products since early 2004.  They are not selling anything new in Canada or anywhere else.  The only Nak car audio equipment currently available in the USA are pieces manuifactured in 2004 or earlier.  Nakamichi is no longer a Japanese company, they are owned by Chinese holding company Grande Group of Hong King.  Nakamichi is now simply a brand name which is part of and imported through Akai Product Holdings and ESI Holdings.  Nakamichi USA is bankrupt, gone, out of business, shut down.  Nakamichi no longer manufactures car audio products at all.

Grande has not yet decided if they will re-enter the N. American market with any car audio products branded as "Nakamichi," but they have announced they intend to use Nakamichi as a brand name for a line of high-end video and home audio systems to compliment their already introduced Akai brand of home theatre gear.  The "new" Nakamichi brand home audio and video products are not yet on the market and in all probability they will bear no resemblance to any current Nakamichi products.

Grande also owns Sansui and is planning to reintroduce that brand as well.  The most likely scenario is all three brands, Akai, Sansui and Nakamichi, will simply re-emerge as the low-to-high end range of the same products, all made in China.

Sorry for the confusion, this thread was intended as just a bit of fun. posted_image

so what about the new Nakamichi mobile dealer price list i was sent by Erickson Consumer (Canadian Distributor for various products) dated Apr 1, 2005 listing the CD-300, CD-400, CD-500, CD-700II as being available to Canadian dealers as of April 1,2005?  is that an April fools joke as well?

i'm just trying to get an idea if this "new" product is of a good quality or spinoff crap......or is it possible they have old stock and just a new dealer price list dated April 1, 2005?

That should be legit.  Those are all the old 2004 part numbers and are the "last" of the Nakamichi manufacturing car audio products.  When the last lots are gone, they are gone forever.  I do not know who the current authorized distributer in Canada is but I will look into it if you want.

i knew the tacky, gaudy looking palm tree display was a joke.. fading the model # out was a dead giveaway.... but it's weird that this post started 1 day before i got a new dealer price list dated April 1, 2005 from the known Canadian distributor for Nak....  see how easy it is to confuse an old dog??

even the propaganda pdf's i downloaded from www.Nakamichi.com  this week list these models, yet at the bottom of the page it says The Grande Building/Grande group..Hong Kong  which led me to believe that Grande was already making this product.... ( my head is now doing a Linda Blair-esque full 360... lol)

the juxt of what i get from this "thread" is that if i can still grab some of these models, i should.....

So, I just bought a CD-400. If it starts to go south, as so much Nak stuff does according to the net, am I up crap creek? If it does, I won't be able to afford anything to replace it for a good while, but out of curiousity, who other than Nak makes decent looking head units (cd 400 in amber is my idea of decent looking)? Becker does but they don't bring them to the states any more. Anybody else?
Thanks,
Richard
