Hello Everyone,

Would it be a bad idea to mount my amp under the rear seat? it looks like there is enough clearance to put it in there.

How much extra clearance should i have for airflow though

olds alero? I am not entirely familiar with that car however I don't suppose it is a bench seat. So you won't have to worry about people kicking it but your concern of air flow might be an issue. You might employ the use of a fan, but you still need a certain amount of air flow in and out the seat area.

is this a sub amp? Why do want it mounted there?

I put my amp under my rear seat in my 2000 F150 extended cab truck. I have children in and out of that area five days a week and I have had no problems. You can see pictures of it here.

I wouldn't suggest it. I've seen it melt the underside on a seat like that befor. It wouldn't take much more to catch it on fire.

I try to put most of the amps under the seat for to try to prevent theft on the amp. If you do install it there turn the amp power connections towards the front of the seat to prevent anyone kicking that side. If at all possible try it sideways that way if any kicking should occur it would be on the side of the amp. As far as cooling most cars have a vent for the a/c under the seat this would help cool the amp down but adding a fan would definitely help.

It sounds like sound pressure is talking about your front seats, that I agree with.  But, there's no room under a rear seat for an amplifier to have proper cooling.  Like I said above, you'll burn your seats most likely.  It will most likely melt the underside of the seat, if not catch it on fire.

thanks guy

the amp is to power boston acoustics 6x9 and power acoustic 5.25" in the front. I do not have any subs.

Right now I have it mounted to the back seat but I'd like to try and find a spot to mount it that is more factory looking, i.e you cant see that i've done anything at all to the radio.

How much clearance do you have under your seat? You will want to have at least 1" of room above the amp so that it can breath.

If I was you I'd let someone named Amy sit on the seats, not keep her located under them.  Oh wait, it's AMP not AMY... sorrry.  posted_image

oddly enough amy is my fiance's name :)

on an alero site i've read about a few people putting it under the rear seat, so there might be lots of clearance in there, i'll have to take it out and see.
